Sociale media zijn niet meer weg te denken. Ook in het zakelijk verkeer. Voor kennisinstellingen biedt dit nieuwe uitdagingen in het contact met verschillende doelgroepen, waaronder alumni. linkedIn is in Nederland bij hoog opgeleiden dominant wanneer het gaat om het bijhouden van het Curriculum Vitae. In het contact met alumni en externe relaties is de werkervaring en huidige functie cruciale informatie. Het is tijdrovend om deze informatie te verzamelen en zelf bij te houden. Het starten van een eigen LinkedIn groep lost dit vraagstuk maar in beperkte mate op.
